Art 1
In this
course, sixth grade students will experience sequential learning
activities in production, criticism, and aesthetics. The students will
explore a variety of art media to develop their creative and critical
problem-solving skills through design problems and challenges. Emphasis
will be placed on the five elements of design.
Students will attend this course daily for nine
weeks and be graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
Project Samples
Campbell Soup Can
Students
learned about the art and life of Andy Warhol. Using a mixed media, glue and
pastels they recreated his famous Campbell Soup Cans.
Shoe drawing
Students studied the element of line. They created a contour line drawing of
their shoe. The students then arranged four rendering of the shoe into a square
configuration. The pencil lines were outlined in black ink, giving a clean hard
line.
Negative/Positive Design
Students studied the importance of negative and positive shape. The shape is
called the positive area. The empty spaces between the shapes are called
negative spaces. The relationship between the positive and negative space will
affect how art work is interpreted.
